Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly will I feel better?

BPPV often resolves within 1–3 sessions after canalith repositioning. Other vestibular conditions vary, but most patients notice meaningful improvement within 4–6 sessions.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is required in Illinois. If your doctor has diagnosed you with BPPV or another vestibular disorder, bring any imaging or test results to your first visit.

Is vestibular PT covered by insurance?

Vestibular rehabilitation is covered by most major insurance plans as physical therapy. We are in-network for BCBS PPO plans. For patients with other insurance, we are happy to provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement. Contact us at 773-729-2551 or info@westtownpt.com to discuss your coverage before your first visit.

What is BPPV?

BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo) is the most common cause of vertigo. It is caused by loose calcium carbonate crystals that have migrated into the semicircular canals of the inner ear. It is highly treatable with canalith repositioning maneuvers.
