Frequently Asked Questions
When should I start PT after surgery?
Your surgeon will provide clearance guidelines. Many procedures begin PT within 1–2 weeks post-op. We recommend booking before your surgery so you can start immediately when cleared.
Do you follow my surgeon's protocol?
Yes — we work closely with your surgical team and follow their post-op protocol. We also follow evidence-based guidelines and build each individualized plan based on your presentation and progress throughout recovery. We are happy to communicate directly with your surgeon’s office.
Do I need a referral for post-op PT?
A referral is technically not required, but we do want to work closely with your surgeon throughout your recovery. We recommend bringing any post-op protocol or notes from your surgical team to your first appointment. Contact us if you have any questions about getting started.
How long will my recovery take?
Recovery timelines vary significantly by surgery type. ACL reconstruction typically takes 9–12 months to full return to sport. Joint replacements often achieve excellent function in 3–6 months. Your therapist will give you a realistic timeline at your evaluation.
